Synopsis:
Based on Shoko Hara's autobiographical novel, Shoko's life, marred by misconduct and a harsh upbringing, takes an unexpected turn when Tetsuya's devoted affection and the soulful strains of his "sho"—a traditional Japanese gagaku wind instrument—offer her a melody of hope and a chance for reform.
I'm proud to present my 6th Daiei fansub project and my 40th fansub project overall. English subtitles for Furyou Shoujo to Yobarete. This pioneering show shaped many of my all-time favorite media pieces, paving the way for shows like Toei's Sukeban Deka and Shoujo Commando Izumi, Union Film's Sailor Fuku Hangyaku Doumei, among others. It also served as a catalyst for other Daiei-produced dramas that tackled delinquency, such as Janus no Kagami and Professional Golfer Reiko. This show essentially crafted much of the cinematic language for delinquent shows on Japanese TV in the 80s. It has some of the edge of the 70s Toei's sub-genre Pinky Violence films, but without the sleaziness and erotic content that tends to be a turn off for me personally.
It also has a connection to real life, as it was inspired by the autobiography of Shoko Hara, a Bugaku dancer who the show's lead character is based on. Of course, being a Daiei drama, certain elements of her life were exaggerated and fictionalized. If you've seen any of the Daiei dramas I've subbed, you'll know what to expect. For me, I just love these kinds of melodramatic shows and I'm glad to make another one more accessible.

As usual with these projects, I only had access to the audio for the translation, so please excuse any slip-ups and omitted lines. Big thanks to @farfromsleep for purchasing and sharing the DVD files, making this project possible. I've had it as a goal to hit 40 projects for a while, and I'm happy I managed to reach that goal with quite a special one and yet another Daiei drama. I'm proud to have been able to complete six shows produced by them, given that all of the other Showa era Daiei fansub projects are still incomplete as of this writing. You may consider this my final large scaled fansubbing project for the foreseeable future. Anyway, enjoy all 24 episodes!
