I have just seen the laserdisc box set of Abunai Deka (original series) and I like it even more than the Blu-rays. Yes - you have to do a bit of hardware assemblage to watch Laserdiscs with external subs - but totally worth it.

Just in case you are interested:

Laserdiscs vs Blu-ray/DVDs

The audio mix is way more funky on the laserdisc and brings a lot of additional swag to the show.

The color re-grading done for the Blurays to counter the loss of CRTs ability to read blacks removes the really strong sense of time that is so evident on the laserdiscs - do don't realise how strongly time is used as part of the unspoken narrative arcs. The re-grading also takes away the shows grittyness that you would expect from a 80's crime show in a port city. The world of the blu-ray is s just flatter and this also shows up on weird little details like the chief's glasses. On the laserdisc his glasses have a more pronounced horned rim (imagine if the top rim looked more like polished mother of pearl) Remember the time is 1986 so they both age him but add a bit of spunk.

The strangest difference is on the laserdiscs everyone looks more Japanese and one shade more swarthy-like they really do spend time outdoors. I can't tell if it is the spatiality of analogue or they used a filter when they did the video processing. Either way I find everyone more expressive and interesting.
